hey, I'm thinking about driving to minneapolis from G.A to visit family this december. I have an 04 530i with sport package, auto tranny, cold weather package, and the same model bridgestone runflats that came with it. I also have a set of bridgestone winter tires, not sure of the model or anything. also, please keep in mind that I am 16 and have never driven in snow before, although ive grown up in maine.... would it be a better idea to just take my dad's jeep? thanks.

Yes take the Jeep and it will be less work for you. Otherwise if you decide on the BMW you need the snow tires. One small storm on the way or when your there you'll be glad you got the snow tires. With the snows on they handle very well.

Jeep sounds like the obvious choice, but for someone who's a novice driver the traction control can mean a lot. Don't rely on it; drive slow and careful and you *need* snows, as a novice snow driver, imo. Jeep will keep you from getting stuck but on interstates it's less of an issue than moving in the line you want to move in. If the traction lights start going, slow down.

thanks for the advice. for winter tires, would you recommend pirellis or bridgestones?
