View Full Version : Automatic dip inside mirror

My automatic dip rear view mirror only works when the slide switch is in the far right position.
Do I need to clean out the slide switch?
I assume you can't remove the mirror without taking the mirror of the front windsreen?
How do I open the mirror to get to the switch?
BTW I'm getting the front windscreen replaced tomorrow so it may be a good time to fix the mirror!

DOH, I've answered part of my question on how to remove the mirror:

Well I've managed to take the mirror off, but I broke the glass, that's OK because the windscreen has a 20cm long crack in it and I'm having it replaced tomorrow.
I think the previous owner used super glue to glue the mirror to the glass.
The plastic has melted in between the metail piece that fixes to the glass and the plastic mirror, take a look:
I still need to work out how to open the mirror to get to the slide switch!
Beware of removing the mirror on a 20 year old car, unless you want to replace your windscreen.

I've just had my windscreen replaced, it was the original windscreen. It took the windscreen guy over an hour to remove the old windscreen, the glue had turned to cement.
