View Full Version : Harley Davidson V-Rod anyone ?

Manu

For some reason I can't shake from that head that V-Rod "night edition-whatever" I saw in the street the other night. This bike looks fabulous.

I don't know anything about bikes, so just wondering someone who knows them :

- Are these good bikes in General ? Are they reliable ? What would be the maximum miles if I were to buy the bike used ? If I buy used it would be nearly new...what is the bike mileage equivalent of having less than 20K miles on a car ? I don't want to buy a worn out bike.

And anyways how many miles could I expect out of one these V-rods before nothing works anymore ?

I'm looking at Harleys because they seem to be one of the few bikes that keep some of their value over time, but I am open to any suggestion.

These are the bikes I like, V-Rod Night edition and V-Rod muscle

Thank you for any feedback/suggestions.

Kind regards,

Eddie Bimmer

It's the only Harley I would buy. The Harley Community (not lawyers on his and hers bikes) don't appreciate it.

I think it's a direction they need

Those are nice but I have kept away from bikes for so long because I know I would kill myself with one of these. I am looking at the V-Rod precisely because it is not nearly as sporty.

That's another Harley I like very much. It looks so agressive and tough. I also like the 883 Iron and the XL1200 Nightster. Or indeed those very old rat bikes I see at kustom car shows.

Off-topic, but would love to see pics of your Camaro. My Favorite year of all by far

Congrats on a beautiful bike

Hey there :),

Thanks for the advice. Yes I will definitely join the forum to find out exactly what particular year/model of VSRC is the best. I wanted to see some unbiased opinions about the bike in general, just to be sure that I was going the right direction. I mean the bike could have been garbage, beautiful as it may be.

My $0.02. I ride a 04 H-D FXDXi and a 95 Ducati 916 strada, the wife rides a 05 H-D FXDLi and a Ducati M620.
When I take the H-D's in for service ( one of my chores ), rather than hang around I go sweet talk the sales people into letting me take out what ever the demo of the day is. ( got my leathers and helmet, why not )
Riden a couple of different V-rods...nice bike. Some others to check out Triumph 675 street triple ( under 400lbs, over 100hp ), Ducati Streetfighter ( 400lbs, 150+ hp).
Todays bikes are all so good, you can't go wrong. Just find one that makes you happy.

By the way, you're assuming these guys are in good enough shape to ride sport bikes.

I don't know about the rest but our dear, sweet, jolly MMMM_ERT is certainly not.

Is there anything with three wheels you might recommend for the old guy?

mullman
10-04-2009, 08:23 AM
Personally the V-Rod doesn't do anything for me.
And if you plan on keeping it, the service manual is a real eye opener on what it is going to take to keep this on the road long-term...

BUT, personally I only care that you ride, not what you ride.
Be safe!

sno_duc
10-04-2009, 08:37 AM
Both the Ducati Streetfighter and the Triumph Streettriple are naked sport bikes. Don't have clip-ons or the aggressive riding position of a superbike. ( after 45 minutes on the 916 I have to get off and walk around )

If you haven't riden one of the modern mid-weights, they're a blast.:D

Okay thanks a lot for everyone that has replied.

I went to see a friend last night who had a surprise for me, his buddy has brought along his Night Rod, the bike I love so much.

Long story short, I went on a deserted parking lot, he let me ride it, I was fine, then I twisted the right grip...

Don't worry the bike is fine, but this is waaaaay too much power for me

But I am going again to the dealer on Saturday, I have made my choice and going for either the Nighster or the 883 Iron, they look fantastic both. The Crossbones is very nice but almost double the price.

I also booked 6 hours with a bike instructor to teach me how to ride properly and safely this winter.

Thanks again for the tips, will post pics of my first road trip hopefully by next spring :bigpimp:

Cheers and ride safe

I guess things are different in Europe. Harley Davidson dealer 1 in Geneva didn't have an 883 Iron available before 9 weeks. Asked if I coud be put on a waiting list in case of a cancellation, there were 5 guys lined up in front of me. Dina Wide Glide is also 9 weeks wait, crossbones and the rest of the dark custom range are selling like crazy.

Second dealer I had to wait 3 hours, yes, 3 hours to see the boss on saturday afternoon,I saw three people sign papers for a new bike. The wait was worthwhile though cause he found me a me black/black '10 Nightster which I purchased immediately :D

So I didn't get a huge deal, but I am getting the Vance and Hines shortshots and headlights fairing for free, plus a nice Bell Helmet.

Thanks to everyone who has helped me make my dream come true
