View Full Version : OT - Thinking of selling my Range Rover for a Cayenne Turbo

We have a 04 Rover with low miles and no issues, its been a great car for us, but I'm thinking something more sporty sounds fun. This would be my daily driver as with wife hogs the 7 all the time, cant blame her.

I would be looking at getting an low mile 05 - 06 Cayenne Turbo

What do you guys think ?

I had an 07 Cayenne Turbo, biggest piece of sh!t I've ever driven, seriously. Doesn't corner well, the Turbo isn't that powerful and it's extremely plasticky inside. Just my $.02. I got a Rover, also a piece o' crap (maybe I got a lemon) but it was so much nicer inside and a better engine (supercharged). Was in the shop a lot though. Don't know what I'd do for a truck now.

Very nice but that got to be $1000.00 payment for 36 mo plus the buy down.... I could buy a low mile 05-06 Cayenne Turbo for that.

I would much rather have a brand new x6m than a 4 year old cayenne, turbo or not! Come on

everyone knows Porsche's beauty is in the 911

EDIT: Actually I would rather have the x5m over the x6m, but still! (x5m is cheaper anyways)

Dont think I would get a 2nd BMW, it would feel to much like I was getting in the same car all the time.

I agree that the interior of the Cayenne is really not that nice. The turbo on it is like putting lipstick on a pig IMHO. The interior on the RR is very nice but they do suck fuel. I went with a Lexus GX470 and I think there is now a GX570 which is very nice inside and I got 23MPG to the mountains snow skiing in the winters so the fuel economy was pretty good. The v8 had plenty of torque and power for climbing the hills effortlessly and Lexus makes a great vehicle. Trust me, your wife will LOVE it and she may even give you back the 7-series. My wife likes the viewpoint from an SUV (easier for a short person to see from) and would probably never go back to a car.

porsche cayenne handles like a car and not a truck, its fast enough with 450hp and i like the way it looks

and a range rover is so problematic its crazy as u know

the x6 has twin turbo FYI... 400+ HP, stupid fast truck.

X6 is fast, if it werent' so f&cking ugly, I'd get one. If I wanted a station wagon, I'd get an Oldsmobile. That's that the X6 reminds me of.

The interior of the new Cayenne seems to be better, but that two toned interior is seriously awful, no two ways about it. It's the exact same as the new VW CC interior's seats. I'm not saying it's a the worst car, but with a turbo, it handles like crap. If you're used to driving cars that don't really handle well, you'll like the Cayenne. If you're used to cars with that kind of power that can handle it, stay away from the Cayenne. It's just the way it is with those. Trucks don't seem to be meant to have that kind of HP. We also have the RR Supercharged, again, and that engine just isn't worth it. Now my old 911 Turbo...different story completely.

yep, that's the crappy interior, that 2006 (i guess) shot. Seats feel like hardened vinyl.

I used to frequently drive a 2008 Porsche Cayenne Turbo. The Porsche interior is not spectacular by any means. The pros are, that it is balls out fast for an suv and that it is fairly comfortable.

@DLF750 I'm not sure if you expected the cayenne to handle like a 911 but it will run circles around any pre-2010 RR without breaking a sweat, its faster, handles much better, and I would say its much more comfortable than the RR sport and about on par with the regular RR.

If I was making the choice, I would just trade up for a newer Range. While the cayenne may be sporty for an suv and fast, IMHO it's ugly and doesn't carry the same presence.

DLF750
10-05-2009, 03:52 AM
I didn't expect it to handle like a 911 of course, just expected it to handle well, which it doesn't. I'd get a Rover too. Crappy car but great creature comforts and looks.

I am a little biased but could have purchased a cayenne turbo if I wanted. I like big cubes and low end torque so the Jeep SRT8 was a no brainer. I have now owned 2 of them, an '06 and an '08. I absolutely love my '08. Nice interior, mean exterior, tons of upgrades, and not one single problem between the both of them for the last 3+ years. And the V8 sounds mean as **** with the new exhaust I always get tons of compliments on how it sounds.

Did B&B stainless exhaust, GSM intake, BWOODY springs and end links, 16 yes 16 iridium nitrous plugs, zex NANO (nitrogen assisted nitrous oxide) with nitrous outlet fogger plate, remote bottle opener, and programmable window switch. Also have 2 custom CMR tunes one for 93 octane and one for nitrous.

Runs low 12's on spray high 12's without. 0-60 in less than 4 on spray and 4.4-4.5 without. Can't beat that for a daily driver SUV.

I wouldn't get the 05-06 Cayenne simply because the new body style of the Cayenne is sick. It is sooo much more attractive than the boring old Cayenne. Frankly, I think it's an after thought by porsche. It's built on the same frame as the Audi Q7 and VW Toureg. I own a Q7 and looked hard at the Cayenne before moving to the Audi Q7. There no third row option on the Cayenne, but that was not the only reason, it is much cheaper inside than the other two for a crap load more money. Love the new one though, it looks like Porsche engineered it this time and not VW or Audi..

Some how the Q7 just does not do it for me, maybe I sould take a closer look ?

Of course I don't really like a stock Cayenne eather or most stock cars for that matter. Now a nice lowered Cayenne Turbo with the right wheels is another matter.

I completely understand I NEVER thought I would own a jeep but go drive one and you will feel much different. I had to downgrade from this 700+hp ride (http://politically-e.com/VetteSale/mods.htm) b/c of my first baby, new house, etc but can honestly say I would not have bought 2 brand new jeep srt8's if I did not think it was one amazing automobile. Just a few mods (cheap i might ad) and they will kill just about anything up to 80-90 with the awd. The '06-07 interior left something to be desired but the '08+ is really nice. Like I said I have had ZERO issues with both of them and I have between the 2 of them 45k miles and 3 years of driving. I personally could care less if the car was made here or germany as long as I like it.

Check it out in the S-line variety. That's what we have and it's got a different ground kit and front bumper than the standard, 21" wheels exclusive to the s-package, and a cool steering wheel. My wife gets compliments all the time from men on it. Makes her feel good coming from 6 years of driving a mini van.

i bet that thing will not pass any state emission test, with all those mods

mostly because of the cat bypass

and a warranty would be a must for that thing, but then again warranty is a must for every high end vehicle
