Where on the E34 is the Transmission Control Unit for a 1992 525i Automatic? Is it easily accessible & replaceable?

Passenger side of the engine compartment. Pull the black cover with 4 screws aft by the firewall. Look inside there... You are looking for the TCM/EGS

Should look something like this......

Actually that's the ABS module you have labeled as the TCM. The TCM is located inside behind the passenger side kick panel behind the speaker.

That is a picture off the net. Depending on the car (Year,Sedan/Touring, 525,530,540) it can be in a couple places including where you mention. Mine looks different than the picture, but I can not find the picture I have of it. I will have to pull the cover and take another one! Ii am attaching a diagram of what mine looks like.

Mine is a 92 525. Trust me, I had to replace the TCU already when I swapped transmissions.
