I have a two month old 325xi, and about three weeks ago, I started to get this awful smell in the car. I thought maybe I had spilled something in it, but then realized it was coming from the vents when I started the car.

I saw the thread about this a couple of weeks ago, and it sounds like this is coming from my air conditioner (mold or bacteria). I took the advice in that thread and opened up the compartment under the hood vents, and cleaned everything I could and sprayed Lysol everywhere, but the smell is just as bad.

Is there anything else I can do, or must I go back to the dealer. I'm also assuming that they will say this isn't a covered repair, or am I wrong?

Thanks,
Bill

P.S. The smell is horrible.

BMW has issued a new service bulletin for this problem. Here's a picture of the new part. :D

My dealer did it for me for free, but the paperwork said that they did it as a "customer courtesy" issue, and next time I'd be charged for the service.

I find that the smell is worse with the A/C turned off, so I just leave it turned on all of the time. The humidity where I live is quite low, so I'm surprised that there's enough persistent condensation to create a growth medium... people who live in swampier areas must really be hurting.
