Something tells me I'm screwed on this one BUT thought I'd ask anyways.

I just tried to change my Cabin Micro-filter and low and behold there was no Micro-filter infront of the evaporator, needless to say the evaporator is very dirty.

is there any way to clean the evaporator without removing the entire dash and evaporator? I tried a can of compressed air (like you use to clean a computer) and that had no effect.

Well I didn't think I'd get a response, so this is what I did encase someone else runs into this -

First step is to follow these steps- http://www.bmw4life.com/microFilter.htm

Then what I did to clean the evaporator was take a toothbrush and duct tape it to a 6" piece of dowel, and used that to knock off all the dry junk that was stuck to the evaporator. Then I used http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/wwg/productIndex.shtml?from=Search&newSrch=yes&operator=keywordSearch&search_type=keyword&action=Go!&QueryString=2RZW3&submit.x=0&submit.y=0 to clean.

hope this helps anyone else that has run into this problem

I'm pretty sure that the cabin air filters didn't become available until 92. My 90 doesn't have one.
