Heater core jobs simply suck. A ferw things that come to mind is. Pay attention to what screws go where. Get a new heater core pipe grommet seal and be patient. Its a long boring job that requires patients and finesse. I unclip and remove the heater door cables, its tempting to just push the control sliders off to the side but this usually bends the stiff wire cables and when the job is done the sliders don't slide well.
