Is there such a beast and does anyone own one - have just seen on ebay - that is a tempting car to buy?

The later E34 530's are V8s. Don't know how rare the Tourings are with the V8s, but I just picked up a 94 530i 5spd sedan.

Telling people I have a 3 liter V-8 always catches them off guard....

Caught me off guard as well - so does your engine have the "sulpher" challenge where our North American gas wore out cylinders due to high sulphur..... Do you know what you gas mileage is like?

Google "BMW Nikasil problem" for all the info on the issues with some of these V8's.
As the ad's always say, your mileage may vary depending on your driving conditions.:)

I have a '95 530 with 205,XXX miles on it right now. Many people tend to stay away because it has the power of the I6 with the V8 fuel economy. It does feel a little bit slugish before 3,500 RPM but once it goes over that it really comes alive. Most owners tend to neglect their maintenance so plan to spend at least $1,500 in bringing back to decent standards. I bought mine dirt cheap ($1,200) but I've put in it probably close to $2K in maintenance items mostly. If you can get your hands on the 540 then you'll have the beast and if it is the 6-speed manual (there are very rare) you are golden. Some people get the 530 and swap the engine for the 4.0 when it dies or some have even put in the 4.4 one converted to run as an OBD-I (4.4 is an OBD-II engine, 96 and later years). You can read about all of these conversions in the E34 section of Bimmerforums.

It is a job converting a 530 to a 540, as I have found out moving my wrecked 540i 6 speed drive train to a 530it. Everything from the back to the engine to the rear wheel hub has to be replaced.
