The black bumper on the white body looks pretty bad.

X2, all white would look a lot nicer.

But I like the X1 a lot overall, I think it will look awesome in black. Can't wait to see the engine option for Canada.

I definitely like it. It looks like a refreshed and slightly modernized X3. The dimensions are spot on too.
Can't wait to see what the drivetrain options are for the US market.

I forgot which magazine I saw it in but only the X1 with Xdrive is being sold in the US. Engine will be 28i (3.0L V6) standard. 20D (2.0L Diesel coming around 2012 model year) [Which is the model I'm waiting for. Hopefully my car last that long ]

And of course the big question: Will either engine offer a manual transmission in the US? If not, I'm just not interested. But perhaps I'm not a large enough market segment to matter ;)

In Europe, the petrol and the 2,3d are only available with the automatic transmission, therefore it's unlikely that NA will receive the manual unless they offer the 2,0d version (it'd sooner snow in the Caribbean before that comes here).

The whole 1 series = fail. The 135/128s are ugly as sin, ditto for the X1. WTF is dreaming this stuff up?

C'mon BMW. Wake up. The 1 series could have been a hit without the sagging door sills and peri-3 series pricing. There are some of us out there (cough cough) who would drop the cash for a grassroots racer a la the 2002.

I wish they would jettison Hooydonk. At least Bangle GTFO.

Looks like the finally figured out that buttons on climate control is silly.

Like the interiors layout. Other than that:

Still to stupid to figure out that 4 inch speakers just can't cut it. Laws of physics just can't be changed.

Hood looks like Jimmy Durante's nose.

Tail lights look like they couldn't decide between and x5 and a 328 and just smashed them together.

Fail :thumbdwn:

Front end yuckiness. Terrible. Looks like an oversized 7er - and looks far from sporty in the front end. It makes Bangle look like an angel.

Tall noses and front ends are going to be more and more prominent on European vehicles to comply with their pedestrian crash safety standards. There needs to be sufficient space between the hood and the components underneath like the engine so that upon impact, injuries to the pedestrian are minimised.

Yes, but we don't drive in the EU and they are going to mfg here

I do love the wheels though.

Can we get those for the X3?

The X1 is only and will only be manufactured in Leipzig, Germany. And for something as substantial as body design, it doesn't make much sense to design a completely different front end for a specific market. Plus, the X1 isn't really intended for success in the US market.

I've seen two new X1s in Finland in the past couple days. Doesn't look as bad as some folks make it out to be.......it's certainly not hideous and obviously better-looking than the X6.

Edit: I snapped pics of two X1s in Germany, one on the streets and the other one at the dealership in Frankfurt am Main.

Well, I guess that's a relatively recent development that wasn't available until recently. Guess the X1 is such a success in the world's largest car market that BMW decided to expand it there.

For all intents and purposes, that announcement doesn't matter; since those produced in China are only for Chinese consumption.

Not to be argumentative, but it matters to the Chinese.

Furthermore, there was no reference to specific markets in AzNMpower32's statement and that is what I was referring to.
