People are talking about the time differences if you remove parts of the car or downsize to smaller wheels! Now the truth comes out, even w/ the 5 speed, the IS does 0-60 in maybe 6.8 seconds optimistically. The 325i will do 0-60 in 7.0 quite easily and most can beat that number. So even though the BMW "only" has 184 hp, it still somehow manages to keep up with a car that has 215 hp (supposedly). Was going to post a flame there- but decided not to-- although i still think its funny. Wonder if these guys still think that the IS should be compared with the 330 and not the 325. It gets pretty painful to realize that they could've had a bmw with much nicer interior and exterior and w/ the same performance for the same price as their IS.

I drove the 5 speed IS300 back when I had a 323Ci, and while the IS clearly had more torque down low, it did not feel substantially faster. It certainly did not have the punch that the 330 does.

Add to that that the Lexus $tealer wanted MSRP for the IS300, and (with both equipped the way I wanted) the Lexus was more than the 325i and just 3Kish shy of the 330i. The whole story behind the Lexus is value, IMHO--that's the only reason I'd put up with one over a BMW. Balance the value equation, and suddenly the IS300 doesn't look like a very good deal.

Or, just buy an M3/4, save some money, and whale on IS300s, 325s and even 330s like red-headed stepchildren.

Heh Heh.

My philosophy is unless you're racing punks at every green light or just need to justify your purchase, why worry about who's a tenth of a second faster? BMW has it all right now, and the IS300 is the pretender to the crown. I'm just glad Toyota and now Nissan are willing to jump into the ring and wrestle with the Europeans in the sport sedan market. We drivers will be the winners in the long run.

i switched cars with my buddy with a is300 auto and i was driving a 328ci. It felt as if the 328 had more punch even my buddy agreed. By the way the 328 is a step. Got him regreting his new purchase. he he he... Any ways I have to say at speeds above 90 the bimmer is more stable and actually feels a lot safer than the IS3 for some reason. Just thought I'd share my thoughts.
