: 1992 535i TCU/TCM HELP!!!

11-12-2009, 11:36 AM
I am in desperate help and looking for someone who knows a thing or two about these transmission control units...
I have a 1992 535i With EML... My TCU was located under neath the glove box in the kick panel. The mechanic "lost" the original one and now im stuck trying to find a new one... First of all does anyone know where I can get a replacement... Ive tried ebay, local ads, Bavarian auto wreckers.. the best they could do was give me a potential part number which is:

Bosch: 0 260 002 227

Secondly... If I get a TCU that isn't exactly the above part number, is it possible to reprogram the TCU so that it will work with my vehicle?

any suggestions would help!! thank you!!

the mech should do all the work for free, including finding and paying for a new one

#1 here?
I used a 1/92 build date for this parts search. if you enter your VIN's last 7 digits you will get information specific to your vehicle.
Once you have a part# you can enter it and determine what vehicles used this particular module.
There are plenty of E34s being parted out everyday, check this and other enthusiast forums. This is not a part in high demand so you ought to be able to get one for little money once you find it.
Good luck
Hit your mechanic over the head with it before installing.

Yes make the mech. pay. How do you 'lose' a $1000 part? WTF? Oh yeah...find a new mechanic too.

The part has been discontinued. The BMW parts catalog shows a reman'd unit to replace the previous part. Should be available at BMW dealerships. If you can't find it in Canada, call a BMW stealership in the states...

But Ross is right...there are so many parted cars on the forums...check out BF.c...there is a 535 auto there now being parted....

Yes clearly he "lost" it and sold it second hand, and my father was dealing with the car at that time, so really I should hit my father over the head for not doing something about it... Since when did 300lb biker lookin dads get so soft?... And thank you wakawill for the link I will be calling them tomorrow, and if turns out to be the correct part i owe you a million dollars!! (if i had it haha)... thanks for everyones help hopefully this search will come to an end tomorrow!!!!
