Bluetooth question

Is there a verdict on whether bmw bluetooth kit is compatible with 2001 325 built around June-July?

I called couple of dealers; one told me that it only works with MY03 and up, the other said that it's for 02/04 and up.

The kit currently sold in US is for 03/02 build date 3-ers. There is one sold in Germany that works with earlier cars, but I don't have any info on that one.
