Has any one used the BMW wireless headphones?

Wireless Headphones for Factory Installed Rear Entertainment System:
Everyone enjoys the ride when your passenger is equipped with these wireless headphones designed specially for use with the optional Rear Entertainment System. They are exceptionally comfortable, while delivering outstanding sound quality, and allowing wearers to control their listening volume. (PN: 65 11 2 154 157) $120.00

I found them online for $90 (http://www.bmwpartsunlimited.com/partlocator/index.cfm?action=MorePartInfo&PartID=823709&siteid=215368&catalogid=4894&tab=1). I wonder how they charge? Just replaceable batteries? Does something still need to plug into the headphone jack to transmit the signal - or will the system sense them automatically?

I also bought this cooler that I thought was cool:

Electric Cooler/Carrier:
This CFC-free cooler chills its contents for convenient road-trip refreshment. (PN: 82 29 9 415 579) $173.95

I have 'em (gift from my CA)

http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=208609&stc=1&d=1258504551

There's no charging. When the batteries die you just replace 'em. The system senses the wireless headset and there's a toggle switch on the side of the headset to select which monitor to listen to; left or right. There's also a volume control scroll on the side as well.
I've had mine since 03/21/09 and haven't replaced the batteries, yet.

Huh, that's seems so odd to me. The RSES supports wireless headphones but from what I'm reading here does not come with the system. You can get them from BMW, but they aren't listed even under the accessories tab of the build your own section of the BMW website. I bet there are owners who get rear entertainment and don't even realize the wireless headphones are possible. I'll be sure to ask my sales rep about this as my 7 is incoming and I have rear entertainment and would like the wireless headphones for my kids.

They are on the website under accessories. And, you don't get them with your car which I find strange given the cost of the car and system. If you don't use headphones, you don't get any sound so I believe everyone who orders the systems knows this. Again, you'd think they'd be included.

Buy this now at a local BMW Center

I was under the impression that the wireless headsets came prepackage with the Rear Entertainment package given that's the only way to hear sound from it. However, when i found out the contrary, i was not pleased but my CA was bent on closing the deal so he ordered me two headsets for free.

I've seen the rear seat system in a 7 at my dealer's showroom and have played around with it. There are 2 headphone jacks, one for each passenger, below the disc slot and next to the i/O buttons used to turn the screens on and off. So, you can certainly use any wired headphones you like. I agree though that the system should come with the wireless headphones, especially given the price.

Here is a picture of the Rear Entertainment system showing the headphone jacks L and R as rgbyhkr mentioned.

Two remotes? Do the headphones fit nicely in the armrest? If not, where do you keep them stored?

I hear sound from my system without the headphones. There is an option from the rear screens iDrive to select the audio source... either Headphones or Loudspeakers. It then plays throughout the entire car.

I also had the source up front selected as DVD as well (while viewing the map).

That's true, but you have to go into the settings to change the configuration. I don't know about you, but I don't want to listen to Barbi's Adventures while driving. You can also use the wired headphones if necessary.

Two kids...different preferrences, hence the two remotes.

Yes the headphones fit nicely in the arm rest

I thought both screens could only play the same content in the US? Can they each watch a different DVD?

How much was the 2nd remote?

 That's true. I only put it on when we are driving for over 45 minutes. I had to listen to Little Einsteins. I will be happy to get the wireless headphones.

That is a US configured car so he can only watch one movie at a time like you and I. Perhaps he hooks something else up to the inputs as shown in his pics.

Actually all 3 screens in the car can output videos from different inputs. However, the front screen goes out when the car is put into D or R. For non-US model 7 series the screen does not go out when the car is in motion.

$0. CA was sympathetic with me (or so i thought) and ordered a second remote for me after i told him my two kids don't like sharing. Remember this was my first F02 lease deal that i ended up putting $26k plus down so the CA/dealership made some money off of me. No wonder why i got the remotes and headsets for free.

The one in the front runs off the cd/dvd player (if the the switch is not tied to the gps, but the trani, it can probably over-ridden), but I don't recommend.

One of the rears is running off the DVD/CD player located in the back between the two back seats.

The other rear is running off your Ipod ussing the appropriate adapter jack.

Am I right?

You can run the rear two screens off of the front DVD changer, the rear dvd player, or any of the two aux inputs in the rear.

True, but you lose the function of your radio in doing so. Unless you wish to listen to what the rear passenger(s) are watching.

I would rather slave one rear unit to the I-pod, and the other rear unit to the rear DVD player freeing the sat/radio/cd player for me.

Can you please explain how to watch 2 DVDs with the rear screens? No matter what I did in the menus with my single remote it shows the same thing on both screens.

Did you put a DVD in the rear DVD player?

The multi-disc changer can only play a single disc at a time. That said, there are 3 different DVD players in the car -- the center console, the 6-disc changer in front of the front passenger and in the rear center control.

The multi-disc changer can be played from any of the 3 screens in the car. The front single disc can only be played from the front screen. The rear player can only be played by one (or both) of the rear screens.

To play 3 distinct DVDs, have the front screen playing off of the center console player, have one of the rears playing off of the multi-disc player and have the other rear playing off of the rear disc player.

In regards to the OP, my CA gave me the headphones for free without even asking. I was about to buy them and he ran into the store and told the cashier that the headphones were on the dealership.

Yes I had one DVD in the rear slot and one in the 6disc changer.

What I am not understanding is how you can control each screen separately. As I said whenever I navigate the menus with the remote it does the same thing on both screens. So I don't see how I can select two different sources. I thought maybe it was the L/R switch on the remote but that doesn't do it.

Ok I just spent 30 minutes messing with this and I can't figure it out. I had one DVD in the 6disc changer and one in the rear slot. No matter what I did with the remote I couldn't figure out anyway to choose a separate source for each screen. Any action taken with the remote happens on both screens.

I WAS able to get the front screen playing it's own source but that's not really much help.

Any ideas? Do I have to get two remotes or is this just not possible on US spec cars?
