I was detailing the interior of my car yesterday and accidentally pushed the turn signal switch down (left turn). Upon exiting the car, I noticed that the corresponding rear and front turn signal came on. However, it was a solid red light in the rear and a solid orange light up front. Is this suposed to happen? As a test, I moved the turn signal lever up (right turn) and it did the same except that the right rear and front lights stayed on. Key was out of the ignition both times. Is this normal?

Thx,

Normal. You use it in Europe when the car is parked to illuminate the side of your car that is facing the street.

Believe it or not. . . It is in the manual. Good feature. I've used it parked on two lane roads out in the country.

Thanks guys. I must have missed that in the manual. I looked under "turn signals" but coud not find any supporting data. Will check again. I am just glad it isn't an electrical snafoo...... you all know how these Bimmers are.

Appreciate the info!

Standing lamps is the what the manual calls them.
