I have a 94 525i, and the blower motor is shot. sometimes it will turn on (if i hit a bump just right for example) and work fine. we finally took the blower motor out (having to break the cages in the process) and the brushes are completely to the bottom, the armature(?) is dark.. the blower motor is busted.

We got a siemens blower motor from a local auto parts store in efforts to replace it for my car, its december and i'm in minnesota, so heat is necessary for me to drive around.

Anyone have any other information on how to replace the blower motor? The auto parts store said that the blower motor's cages are detachable, and that you just need to pull on the cage for it to come off, so hopefully that works.

i did read the sticky thread and some other threads on the FSU and replacing that, but i never had any other problems (draining battery, fan always on etc..) and after seeing that the brushes on the blower motor were in fact gone, i'm pretty sure thats the reason for my heat not working.

The blades are not removable. They are pressed on the shafts and can not be easily replaced.

It is a fairly straight forward process, I have done it twice on my car car, one was last weekend where I did removal and installation in less than 45 minutes.

I don't understand why you had to break the cages though? It should just take some wiggling around to get it out in a complete package.

The only problem that we are having now is that we're having problems getting enough clearance to get the new blades in (its 20 degrees outside right now, so everything is really cold and stuff). Any ideas?

What are they hitting on? Can you get a picture?

having just done this myself, bentley does not mention that the windsheild wipers must be up at the top of their stroke so that the blower will clear the wiper actuating arm. after that just disconnect the harness and the retaining strap and it comes right out. hope this helps.
