Greetings..
About a week ago my (actually the wife's) 2000 323i wouldn't start. Called Roadside assist. Sent a truck who jump started the car. Advised to let it run a while to charge the battery. Worked OK for a couple of days. Sunday went to start, and sure enough battery dead.. Plugged in my trusty battery charger, got a solid charge and went about my weekend..
This morning, wife takes car to work, turns around and says.."It's running bad.." I get in car, drive for a few minutes..no problems..Drop her off at work.. When I start to leave to pick her up, I notice that the trans isn't shifting out of 1st gear (Step in "D")..Pull over, put it into park, and try again..now shifting fine.. Later on, we needed to go get groceries..and I said OK, let's try again.. Yep, stuck in first gear..Put in neutral this time, and seemed to get better..
What is weird is a loud CLICK sound that seems as if it's coming from the glove compartment..more of a TAK! then a click..
Car goes to Open Road BMW on Thursday, but wondering if anyone has experienced similiar problems.. I've surfed this board and foubnd the battery problems tied to the IHKA seem to be in later model years..
I'd appreciate any comments I can give to the SA, since I'll bet it doesn't fail while at the dealer..
