Does anyone have any knowledge or experience with furs (no not that kind of fur :p)

My sister has a mink coat she inherited from my mom. The coat was purchased new in the mid 80's for $3800.00. My sis has no use for it and wants to sell it but i have no idea what it might really be worth or how you go about selling it. I've seen a few on ebay but there has to be a better venue to put it on the market. Any ideas?:dunno:

My mom just bought me a full length mink coat and it was sold at retail for a bit above 10k im sure you can get alot for it. how long is it? has it been well taken care of by a fur specialist ? I would google a fur place in your area and take it to them see what they say about it :) i would keep it especially if it came from your mom thats really neat! Good luck with the sale!

It's value will depend a lot on how it has been stored. A fur from the mid 80's could have deteriorated considerably. Used fur coats aren't worth as much money as you may think. I would say top end $4,000.00 if it's good quality and in perfect condition. But you will probably get offers for a lot less.

You should have it appraised for insurance purposes anyway, especially if it's in good condition.

It spent most of the the years in cold storage at a furrier. It's been in a closet at my sisters for the past 4 or 5 years. Jacket length. Appears to be in good condition. I guess I can start with going to the place it was purchased and see what they say.
My sister doesn't have any kind of need for it and needs the money more. My wife isn't interested in it, she just doesn't like fur coats.

This is kinda what I suspected. I just didn't know if it will end up around $3000 OR $300. It has to be a size that fits the buyer and a style they want.

Used furs are a tough sell....you`ll be lucky to get 25% of the original price....while there *are* consignment shops that will sell it for you, they`re not looking to do you any favors....eBay may be your most viable venue....get some good photos, figure what`s the least you`d accept for it, and use that figure as your reserve....
