Anyone know if the Bluetooth Pairing Code is hidden on the X3 anywhere? Bought an '05 in July and would liike to pair my Motorola Cell, but I can't find the password.
Any help would be appreciated!! :)

I have a 08 X3 so keep in mind this could be different. In the trunk there is a panel on the drivers side. Take off the panel and you should see a bunch of wires and a silver rectangle that says bluetooth on it. On the Bluetooth sticker there is a four digit code. Thats the password.
With mine, it was printed on a card that was with the owner's manual and the other books.

Try 1234 or 1111
The dealer can also hook up their computer to your car and get the code that way as well...

where is the panel that can be removed? I have an '07 and all I can see is the battery on the right and a styrofoam-like partition that holds the jacking tools. Is the blue tooth under that? Any help is appreciated.

You are looking in the bottom compartment. There are two panel accesses, on either side, you need to press the button near to the top to open them. See the little net to your left hand side when you open the trunk? that's what comes off. Look inside and there's a sticker on top of the communications module, starts with "PK".

Are you sure your '05 has BT? The code should be on a sticker in the left rear cargo area. If you press the button to remove the panel, you should see the sticker with a four digit code.

Well, come to find out that my X3 did not come equipped with Bluetooth. I am considering purchasing it b/c I think it would be helpful. Can anyone tell me if it works well and is it worth buying? Thanks.

Seems like the oem solution would be pricey. Check out units from Parrot.

You can buy a BMW ULF off Ebay. I did. I recommend a generation 13 but older models will work. Just make sure you're prewired for Bluetooth. Here's a link to the installation instructions:

I don't think the '05 was wired for BT. Correct me if I'm wrong.

You must either have premium package or BMW assist or both.

If you can find a factory module, that's the best in my opinion for plug-n-play integration, phonebook loading and browsing etc. My car wasn't pre-wired so I installed Parrot, it is very good, no doubt about that but I miss caller ID display on stereo screen and the inability to browse phonebook. It does announce the voice tag of caller if you have the number stored in it's phonebook though.
If you are not pre-wired and want a proper solution, I would recommend to get a good head unit from any reputed manufacturer that comes with integrated bluetooth, Alpine, Clarion, Kenwood; lots of options to chose from and you can get one with 1000 times better iPod controller than factory one. I would think that one such headunit will cost about $200, about 50-80 for steering harness, and 30-50 for radio harness, about 20-30 for bezel. In about 300-350 you would have a perfectly working bluetooth, iPod and a much better audio system. Look up Evlengr's installation, you don't have to go as far as installing amp and changing speakers etc unless you are an audiophile, just HU would do.

Another benefit of the OEM (BMW ULF) solution is voice recognition. You have a separate phonebook for voice recognition numbers. And if you have NAV the voice recognition works for it too. Link to manual:

Parrot has voice recognition too, you can just say "telephone" to activate it, say voice tag after that to dial the number and say "hangup" to disconnect. Although, I never disconnect that way, it sounds plain rude at the other end.

I do believe my '07 is prewired, but I will check with the dealer to be sure. If so, I'm looking around ebay and there are some out there. However, where do I find what model/part number will work?

Here's a link to BMW ULF part numbers. There are some who use the TCUs also. Go to Ebay and do a search for BMW ULF. Right now the only generation 13s I see are $624.

Checking if you are prewired or not is very easy, just look into driver side rear quarter panel and if you have a cable with 58 pin connector then it's just plug-n-play for you. Alternately, you can ask dealer to list all options in the car, I think it's option 640 for pre-wiring, I posted it in one of my earlier threads about bluetooth.
