I'll reply to my own post, especially after seeing your post count (1).

First of all, welcome. Not that it's my place to say, since I am not a moderator, but welcome nonetheless.

There has been a LOT posted on this forum on this topic. The fan favorite seems to be the Garmin Street Pilot III. Check out this thread. (http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/showthread.php?t=14742&highlight=garmin)

You can also go to the General forum and search for "nav" , "garmin", "navigation" or variations on that theme. I think that you will find this amounts to a religious debate -- do you want portability, easy of installation, integration, etc. There are a lot of tradeoffs. I would suggest a little light reading, then some more detailed questions.

Cheers.

Sam

As far as portable navigation goes, Garmin is about the best out there.

I have a small Garmin eMap that does just about everything I can ask of it. Drawbacks (but not major issues to me) are the lack of color display and lack of route calculation (it is done on the PC at home).

A good friend has a Streetpilot. They are very nice, but a bit more money.
