I currently drive an 08 535i - great car, especially with the Dinan software....:) But I'm itching again....I am considering either going with a sportier route - 2011 M3 - or continuing with the 5er, and ordering a 2011 F10 550i....which promises to be an amazing luxury sedan. I would probably go with ED. Two very different choices, I know...I do drive 2 kids pretty often, which is a consideration, though they can easily fit in the back of a 3 series. Any thoughts from people who have dealt with a similar dilemma?...

I drive an '08 E92 M3. I'm getting an F10 550i. I don't think you can really go wrong with either choice, but they are going to be very different experiences.

Wow, hard decision xD
I would go for M3 probably because i'm still young :D
If you really want to eat corners and awesome response (N/A) get the M3 pure adrenaline
If you're fine with something just faster but will not abuse it 550i

I am going to get the F10. I find the larger trunk essential for week-long trips with the kids.

Do you want a sports car or a grand tourer? That should answer your question. You're right that kids fit in the back of an E90 M3 with no problem.

Kind of like comparing sophisticated and gorgeous (5 series) with hot and sexy (M3) - very much a personal preference thing.

At the end of the day, if I still couldn't make up my mind, I would go for the larger car - the 550i is fast enough for everyday driving.

Can you actually order an F10 already for delivery in June? BMW is buying back my 335 e92 and I'm stuck with the same decision.
how old are your kids now (and perhaps more importantly, how old will they be when you plan to get rid of your next car)?
our boys are 8 & 9, and i tend to hold onto my cars for 4-5 years, so i really don't look at whether they'll fit into the car when i'm buying it new, but rather will they still be able to comfortably fit in back when i plan on replacing it down the road. you sound like you flip cars every year or two, so this may not be much of an issue for you.
