I'm looking at a 535XIT and was wondering what a fair price to offer would be:

2008
34,808 miles
Cold Weather Package
Nav
Satellite Radio
Sports Package
Comfort Access
Park Distance Control
Logic 7 sound system
Black Saphire Metallic
High Pressure pump replaced 4/16/2009

They are asking $42,900

Here's the dealer listing....

As a reference point, there are huge incentives on new 2010 5 series vehicles so new xiTs are being offered at $10+K discounts. The link below is an example of that. Even if you are not in the market for a new one, you can use the pricing to give you an idea of what a two model year older one is worth to you.

Seems very steep. There are 2008 550s listed for less than that. If it's not a buyback, 35k would be a really good deal for that car ;)

43K is definitely too much. I've got my 550 for way less than that.

It's well optioned... if it's cpoed seems like what there asking, seems pretty fair if it's not cpo i might try to go a bit lower..

The only thing Id change is Id swap out the low profile tires for a non-sport wheel/tire setup.

We have bad roads around here and with the low profile tires its a bit harsh.
Am I correct that un like the sedan, on the wagon the suspension is not changed in the sports package?

I think that it's the "market" price that's commonly being asked by many dealers, and most of them may not wanna go below that price range. I still think that you can cut it down a bit without much hassle, but if the price works for you then why wait? :)

I believe you are correct about the suspension not being changed in the touring model with the sports package. I think this has to do with the X drive. The ride is not too harsh even with 18" rims, at least on the roads around here. I bought a CPO 2008 535xiT with the same equipment (except nav) and fewer miles a year ago for less than the price you are being quoted. Wonderful car, no HPFP issues (yet).

Just got a 528xi last week with similar options, cold weather, premium, nav, etc. for about 32.5K I know it's a lower model but it might give you an idea on what they are going for

I went to see the car yesterday and unfortunately is was in less than perfect shape with a lot of touchup paint and some interior wear. I would put it in good not excellent condition, so Im going to pass on it. My wife also balked at paying $40,000 for a used car.

Thanks for all your helpful responses.
