My wife and I recently purchased an 07 530i and drove it just past warranty. Today she put the key in upside down and it failed to start. Now the computer doesn't even pull up, the steering wheel is locked, and i'm rethinking marriage. I unhooked the battery and that didn't work. Please help.

Have you tried replacing the key fob battery?

Update: Sorry I was thinking you had CA... duh! :eeps: You may need to replace that key. Have you tried the valet key?

That's a little harsh. :)

Too late now, but next time don't let her drive it until you're drunk and can't drive anymore. :)

we were given no other key. just tried to start it again and it showed a picture of a car on lift (guessing that means servicing). will putting the key in upside down like that cause problems?

I also have a '07 530i but the key works from either side so I wouldn't blame the wife. Save the marriage.

No comfort access here and my key will work both ways, doesn't matter which was it's inserted.

On my 05 545i there is no "upside down" the key works no matter which way you put it in.

put it in park.

i'm not kidding. happened at the car wash one time and i didn't realize that the guy put it in gear. odds are you wife may have done the same.

Dead battery

+1 - That's my initial reaction as well. Unfortunately, I believe those keys do not have replaceable batteries.

Actually I was refering to the car battery itself but you make a good point! Even rechargable batteries in the FOB's can go bad.
