Current late breaking news!!!

The bluetooth adapter for x5, e39 and e46 pre 3/2002 will be available in the next few weeks. All functions are working. Last of the testing on the e46 is happening this week. You will need your dealer to re-code the dme for you. Remember this is not a BMWNA supported config, so you may want to confirm that they will re-code your dme for you. Please lert me know if you are interested. This is basically just an adapter from the 26pin to the 54 pins that the Bluetooth module requires

thanks

If it will work on my 7/01 build than I am definitely interested.

Could you clarify this 9/01 cutoff. Is it an option of some sort that was added in that month? How can you check?

Oh yeah, what is DME?

Thanks.

the way I undestnad on e46 cars, there may have been a wiring change for the cell phone stuff, you need to have the option 640 install. Simple check woul dbe to look in the trunk where the cd cahnger would be. There will be a bundle of wires for the cell phone module. this bundle will include 2 26 pin connectors and an antenna connection

On the bottom of the trunk lid I have a sticker that says something like "prewired for phone"
I think it means that I have the option 640

I'm in also if it works for 7/01 cars as well. There was no telephone wiring change from 7/01 to 9/01 so it should work. The major change was 3/02.

I'm sure it's not reprograming the DME, since that's the engine computer (Digital Motor Electronics). But there in fact WAS a change to the phone prewiring for 09/01 (most likely) that might make whatever this is not work.

I am not sure that there was. I installed the CPT-8000 in a friend's 11/01 325Ci and the wiring was identical to that in my 7/01 build. I could be wrong, but everything looked the same to me and the same connectors were used on both cars.

sorry guy, I have been way too busy at work, but here is more info. Looking at the roundel article and such, we think that the kit shoudl work on the following cars. Also this is not just an adapter, There is also some modification ot the bluetooth module it self. We are hoping to get a BMW center to give us a good price on the modules. We are try to target the pricing between $600 and $700 for the full install kit, module and adapters.

What about Coupe and Sedan PRE 03/2002 WITH option 640? They seem to be omitted from the list.

The connectors are all the same. It's the way the system deals with the output speaker signal. The 07/01 car will have a speaker under the steering column. The 11/01 most likely will not. The former needs a high-level signal (which the CPT and aftermarket kits provide) which the latter will also accept. But the older cars might not work with a low-level signal. This is what I've yet to 100% verify.

I thought the sound ran through the radio speakers. So what you're saying is that Pre 11/01, there is a speaker under the steering column that the phone uses for playing who you're talking to, ringin, etc..?

Yep. The panel still has a round indentation in it, but the speaker is now gone. This also explains why some 09/01+ people have reported noise from the stereo speakers with the stereo turned off, because the amp has to be on all the time.

so what is the sound quality like out of this single speaker? Doesn't seem to me that it would be as good as running through the stereo... just curious.

I've never used the through-stereo setup, so I can't say. The single speaker is the only way I use my cellphone in my car (using a Motorola carkit) and it works fine. For me, having this setup is better, since I don't know how well the integrated system would work with aftermarket stereo stuff.

Thanks for all the info Kaz . Let me know if you come up w/ a way to get the bluetooth in our cars. I would definitely love it.
