My 2008 535i sport got a chip in the front windshield somewhere between the center and my straight ahead view. When i leased the car the dealer offered me glass insurance amongst other things. So i called the insurance put in a claim and they sent safeway to repair the chip.

After the repair the chip is still visable and now there are additional lines comming out of the chip. So i called again, now they are going to replace the windshield so far so good.

The windshield that is going to be replaced is going to be aftermarket, so i wen't to the dealer and asked if that was going to affect me when i return the car with the windshield not having the bmw logo on it. The gentleman i spoke to said it should be fine there really not going to look at the windshield to see if it is original only looking for cracks or chips.

What do i do take his word for it. There should'nt be a problem in my opinion because the dealer sold me the insurance. My biggest fear is when i return the car they might charge me for a whole new windshield.

Any help with this decision would be greatly appreciated THANK YOU ALL !!!!!!!

OEM or equivalent is totally acceptable! Since their fixing under a warranty you purchased from the dealer you have nothing to worry about!

correct. furthermore, there are only a few handful of true windshield manufacturers. they just put different logo's at the bottom. i'm in the insurance industry and hear about this quite often.

I think that you'll be fine. I agree with JerseyGeorge. You did by the insurance through the dealer so it would be absurd for them to later on tell you that you needed to have the windshield replaced with OEM.
