Catchy title, eh?

Have you seen the latest ad for the updated X5 with the angles standing next to each of the four wheels, touting the new X-Drive AWD system? Well, today we received an unlabeled box in the mail from BMW, and one of our salesmen decided to open it when curiosity got the best of him. Unfortunately, he has not yet seen the new ad. Therefore, as you can expect, he was quite confused to find 6 2-feet tall cardboard angels in the box, and thought it was a joke. It just so happened that someone had a new car mag with the ad in it, so he showed it to the other salesman and explained to him what it was all about.

I guess BMW is sending these to all the dealers. Inside, they send directions to place the angels near an X5 in the showroom, as well as putting one near each tire just like in the ad. The package also includes a sign to place on the roof, as well as some large posters of the ad to hang in our offices. Be sure to check it out if you are in a BMW dealer in the near future, it's kind of cool looking (in a corny way).

Dude, those things freak me out. We got our shipment the other day. Only one of them made it out of the box and since then has made unexpected appearances in the offices of various sales and management personnel. :eeps: :yikes:

The guy at the front with his arms folded is the one that keeps popping up here and there...

Do you have any '04 4.4's in?

Am I the only person who's disturbed (unsurprisingly so, unfortunately) by the fact that a person whose job it is to sell these cars don't even know what the current marketing campaign is? I can see not knowing what options are available or what problems a model has (I know, they should but they don't) but come on...

That said, the first time I saw the ad, I thought it was, um, interesting...

Yes. TiAg/Grey, SP, PP, RC, CWP, Nav, 19s, etc.

It is a fairly new campaign. :dunno:

Just saw the commercial this past weekend for the first time. My husband and I were a little creeped out. A very odd commercial for BMW.

Angels watching over me, every move I make,
Angels watching over me!
Angels watching over me, every step I take,
Angels watching over me!

God only knows the times my life was threatened just today.
A reckless car ran out of gas before it ran my way.
Near misses all around me, accidents unknown,
Though I never see with human eyes the hands that lead me home.
But I know they're all around me all day and through the night.
When the enemy is closing in, I know sometimes they fight
To keep my fight from falling, I'll never turn away.
If you're asking what's protecting me then you're gonna hear me say:

Got His angels watching over me, every move I make,
Angles watching over me!
Angels watching over me, every step I take,
Angels watching over me....

For the record, I think they're cute!

However, living in the USA, in 2003:

1. The "Trouble Twins" (aka Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson) will kvetch
that none of the angels are African-American, Latino, Asian or
Native American  (and yes, I are a black woman, and
those two are trouble - don't get me started!

2. The National Organization for Women will complain that none of the
angels appear to be female (maybe the one in the back that is
hidden is female, but then, why is she in the back?)

3. The Surgeon General will express concern about the angels' BMI
(Body Mass Index), wanting them to be lean, due to the obesity
problem in the US

4. The American Civil Liberties Union will express concern about
separation of church and commerce; after all, aren't angels a
religious symbol? However, I believe angels are not unique
to Christianity, also appearing in Judaism, Islam and other faiths?

That X5 commercial creeps me out, I do like the new 5 Series ads though.

I would put the X5 TV ad with the new Citi Bank Card commercials (where the women talk like men) as the two worst commercials of this fall season. In fact I have made it a point never to use a Citi Card because the commercials disgust me so much.

Sheesh! I'll agree with you on the X5 ad. Those angels are ridiculous and stupid. The Citibank commercials, though, are great! :)

What color is that X5 in a commercial? I like it a lot but it is new for X5.

BTW, I've seen new X5 right next to last year model and it looks way better  .

Compared to Raphael's cherubs, they're pretty svelte. I just can't see how his could ever get off of the ground.

I find that angle commercial a little strange also.

Do I really need to purchase a vehicle that depends on 4 Cherubs to assure a safe ride?? No thanks!

It's just a marketing campaign! Meant to be humourous. Don't get so serious. Americans usually love that kind of gimmicky marketing!

I don't have the demo numbers to back this up, but the first time I saw that ad I thought, "Hmmm...X5 sales must be pretty soft among 40-year-old women." But if you look carefully at the TV ad, it's a pair male hands seen gripping the steering wheel.

Or maybe I'm reading too much into it.

Tell that to the guy who bought a VW Touareg after seeing a commercial that showed one towing an airstream camper.

Sorry, I'm a little lost. What has that got to do with fictional angels protecting the X5?

The VW guy should have done his homework. No one is going to believe that you get a set of real angels with you new X5. Well unless you are a young child, who will believe almost anything.

Do the angels keep unsuspecting drivers from taking the X5 off-road, where it's bound to get stuck on small rocks and 6" deep ruts?

The only thing I liked about the Angels ad on TV is that they filmed a X5 with Panoramic Sunroofs!
