Hello all! Im new to BMW's in general and just bought a SMG 07 550i I want to throw an intake in but not sure which one to go with.. whats the difference is between the rpi and the afe intake.. Big price dif.. and the RPI doesnt look anything like an intake but they both claim to give up to a 12 HP increase. Which one should I go with?

Sorry, but aFE has been proven to NOT work on these cars. Think about it, where are you getting your "cold-air" from? From the engine? um, no. The AFE is more like a hot-air intake on the E60.

The RPI scoop actually works. Go RPI.

+1

AFE gave a good buy deal over at 5series.net when it came out and some of the guys ran dynos with it and with out and it basically did nothing or took away 1-3HP.

RPI's have been proven to work.

Hi I can assure anyone with the 550I upgrades will see a noticeable difference in both throttle response and torque. There is a synergistic improvement that rises above the specs:) of a total increase of 18hp for intake and 6hp for chip! And don't forget that this is a 1900.00 price total! I have it, and my 550I hammers down like a big M3!

anyone have a link to the RPI intake? I found one but its just like an adapter for the stock air box, is that right?

I think the weakest link to an air intake is the intake tube. the ripples and that big box that breaks up the air before it enters the Throttle body.

trinityautosport.com sells the intakes and it is just an adapter more or less. If you want to change the airbox the only option is the Dinan intake which is a bigger box and two pipes taking in air, but its $1000, look it up on dinancars.com. If I had nothing better to do with $1k I would get it.
