I just purchased a used 2005 545i, sport, cld weather, premium sound. Has 66k on it
and after a few days got the increased emmisions warning:( , this was the day after I put in a half tank of gas (93 Octane). I refilled the gas tank, rechecked the gas cap to make sure it was tight and still have the light along with rough idle (500-600rpm), and it has now stalled on me twice at traffic lights  . Any ideas on the cause, I have seen O2 sensor, MAF, and DMTL :dunno:

Thanks

Sounds like a MAF issues since its stalling. Research on how to clean it.

Get a can of Maf sensor cleaner and spray your sensor around 10 to 15 times. Let it air dry and you should be good.:bigpimp:

What is an "MAF"? I have the same issue with my 2006 530i (43K), however mine doesn't/hasn't stalled. I've had it in to an Indie BMW Service Shop and they found no codes or other malfunctions/concerns.

Thanks

Okay, so I take the car back to the used car dealer, they pull out this nifty orange box (reads the fault codes) says "system to lean" (wish my system did that:D) translation possible air leak. Any way they clear out the ault code and now the car is running like a top. Two things I was told, don't go to discount gas stations, make sure cap is secure...we will see. Fortunately, my used car dealer is not the stereo-typical used car salesman. :)

There has been some reports that the VANOS system on some BMW have a hard time settling at idle. BMW I believe even had Service Bulletin about it. BMW can adjust your idle up to a 150RPM difference and usually they can find a happy idle for your car.

Not saying that is it for sure. But that is in avenue to look at.

Thanks to everyone for your insights. I've made an appointment with my BMW Service Provider to have this issue addressed and will post the results for future reference.

Hope it works out for you, so far since the reset on the error message had not had any stall problems.
