Okay, it's obvious that the two cars share the similar styling. However, where the BMW succeeded within that style, the Pontiac has failed miserably. I love the looks of the new 6. I do not like the Grand Prix at all.

Your car (and mine) look as much like that car as the new 5er looks like the GP. That's that.

I agree. With my pic, I was offering evidence that not all e36s look like pontiacs. I think the 5er looks a lot like the GP from multiple angles.

Agreed, and much more so than the new variants of both models.

I disagree.

For years now, bmws have had relatively flat noses (they used to have an overbite). Pontiac has followed along, but had a slanty nose. The e60 is the first BMW with an overtly slanted front grille.

I guess all the Ponti/BMW pic comparisons show that even though styling cues can be taken, the *whole* is what matters. Just because the Grand-Am and E36 front ends look very much alike in that post doesn't mean much when you view the whole vehicle.

That said, I still don't like the new 6-SolaraPrix... I mean 6-Series.

Slanted nose.

Also, keep in mind that when shot from the same angle, you can make almost ANY car look similar.

Fine. For the last 10-15 years, BMWs have been known for their flat noses (z3 aside). I'm not passing judgement on the e60. However, to me, it does not look like a BMW.

The grille on the z8 is flat. That's what matters to me.

I just know I'll miss the kidney grille opening with the hood. For some reason I think it's a powerful look how the lines flow from the grille onto the hood and to the windshield.

You didn't like the E36s? E30s? E34s? :(

Also using extremely different lens lengths can either flatten (longer length) or distort (shorter lens) the image.

Oh I sure did. I think they're timeless designs, especially the E34.

However I don't think it's that simple. My conjecture is that modern, sleek designs work better w/ the grille opening w/ the hood, and the more traditional, boxy, edgy designs would work better w/ the grille being separate.

I only had the mainstream models in mind, at least the ones that have the headlights and the kidney grille on the same plane.
