I'll always love the 8 series-- it was one of my all time favorites when I was a kid. However, after seeing this pic as well as a new-vs-old 6er pic at Turdfly, I have to say I'm more and more excite about the new 6 each time. It looks great, despite what others here might say. It'll have limited availability, and it's going to be a hot ticket for a while. Also, "rumors" that I've heard through the grapevine say that allocations will be heavily swayed in favor of the cabrio, so people wanting coupes are in a particularly difficult situation.

i agree, the new 6er looks nice but next to 8er it seems to look bigger :yikes: i hope that it's not heavier. :thumbdwn:

Wow the 6 looks HUGE and bloated. :wow:

What is the weight difference between the two?

The 8 weighed in around 4200 pounds, while a 545i is 3800. I would think the 6 will be in the same ballpark. The 645 will have a significant horsepower advantage on an 840 too (and a smaller advantage over a non-CSi 12).

acc. to BMW Germany, it weighs (Euro norm)* 1690 kg ~ 3722 lb

*Euro norm includes 90% filled-up tank, 149 lb driver and 15 lb cargo.

Thanks Alex, I thought I was on the high side. FWIW, the 8er numbers are curb weights from Edmunds (840 < 4200, 850 > 4200). The new 6er will likely be a (very comfy) rocket.

The 8 series has that classic BMW line that I'm beginning to miss. I can't wait to see the 6 in person though. Each time I see a pic of the 6 I like it more and more:thumbup:.

I remember standing next to an 8 for the first time and thinking how much lower it was than I expected from the pics... it's much heavier than its stance would imply. So I'm not surprised that the 6 is in the same size range.

The 8 is looking like a classic. The 6 is looking fresh.

Those don't look like stock mirrors on the 850i. Are those non-US spec mirrors? They look pretty nice.

I really like the look of the old 8-series. It looks so sleek even standing still.

Those mirrors came on the CSi's, I believe. I think my friend Paul has them on his 850CSi. Let me find a pic.

I've never been a big fan of the 8, but the E31 makes the E63 look like dog meat, IMHO. I'm sure the E63 will be a dynamically much nicer car, etc.

Probably aftermarket.

These are decent pics...I'm not a fan of the new designs, but I like the 6-series the best so far.

His original one was US spec, and had the square mirrors.

He has the M-style mirrors on his Euro-spec car.

I don't know if those were stock or not. Maybe the European models had the M-style mirrors. :dunno:

I have a question, is the new 6 series a coupe version of the 5 or the 7? I have herd different things, just wondered which one was true.

Both look good at the from the front. It's at the rear that the 8 wins hands down. 6's trunk just looks so out of place! If they could fix that, it would be winner.

The new 6 is based on the new 5.

IMO, the new 6 is another Bangle mangle. Starting with the most recent 7, the cars have a sort of bloated Brauhaus-meets-anime look to my eye. I was drawing better looking cars in 8th grade study hall.

The 8 has a much more classic look to it, a little reminescent of an M-1 from the front. I guess I just prefer a Euro-classic look to Wests Coast/Japanese comic book futurism.
