I know this probably the simplest of questions? But if you never ask... you never know. :D

So when my car is parked and locked or unlocked and I approach it, there is this electronic whirring sound. Like a motion sensor at work. I don't touch it at all.

Mine does this too, Tex. It sounds like an air pump, maybe? I usually notice it after I have shut the engine off and it has sat for a few moments.

It's one of those things I have intended to ask here or my Service Adviser... Keep forgetting.

But it sounds quite normal. And yes the car usually sits for a minute or the next day. But obviously it's "motion activated".

Hmmmm... so me and Driver8 are the only 7's that do this?

Our 2006 Hybrid Highlander does this and we were told that it is something related to transferring the fluids out of certain areas of the engine so that they don't sit there for extended periods of time...maybe related?

I hear it too. My guess it's pre booting the computer system and putting fuel to the EFI. Do you have comfort access? It's getting ready for you??

I only hear that when i turn off the car.

It's the navi drive spinning up, whenever I approach the car with the comfort access keys in my pocket it does this and the seat button lights up. I'm guessing that the car is thinking that you are getting ready to drive it so it's prepping itself for a fast boot. I know the new 7 doesn't do this and it take 20-30 seconds for everything to get running.

^^^ that could/may be the case.... However... This happens without my fob and even if my car is parked out front.

Its definitely "motion activated". Whatever it may be.

i think the seat shaped light never goes off, but probably in comfort fob range things start to happen "guessing"

Hey Marcus how's it going? Its been about a year or so huh? Your new car is looking awesome btw. We should rendezvous sometime and check out each others cars. I'd love to see your new 7 in person.

its the fuel pump priming the system. i believe comfort access only has this.

My car does not have Comfort Access. With my car, it is something inside the cabin.

Mine did it too, 04 no comfort access, I always asked what it was and since I had so many other issues I guess they never took the time to figure out.

Does concern me that noone could figure it out though

the noise you hear when you're walking up to your door. sound comes from the bottom rear end of the car.

The noise from inside the cabin can be one of a million electronic devices setting up itself lol...sometimes i hear the most awkward sounds from inside the cabin even when the car is off!

As long as its noting draining the batt it's all good. But stuff does go into sleep mode, hvac setting, nav. Etc

My fuel pump tends to turn on after waking up the car. Runs anywhere from 1 to 3 seconds. It's not consistent though.
I used INPA to confirm the noise.
Not sure why this is necessary as the same engine (N62) in an E53 X5 does not do this.
