was thinking of adding the ipod adapter to my 06, i got a 20% off dealer coupon, so it would run me about 600 installed, controlled through i drive, anyone have any experience with this? Is the 600ish a good price?

Hahahaha very true, The dealer had my car since friday, I didnt want to not have it another day. The 20% expires on the 30th so i may bring it back 1 more time for the install...

I have it and have had it in my last two E66's. On price, seems high if that includes the 20% off. If not, seems in the ball park. With regards to functionality. I sounds really good and is controllable through idrive and the steering wheel. It is very clunky with regard to navigating the ipod. The more songs you have the less chance you have in finding one. By artist really does not work well. So, it is very important to create playlists of stuff you want to hear. All in all, I'd take it any day over the changer and it's better than no ipod integration, but there are so many other cars that do it better. Including our Audi.

Yeah, they are probably not really giving you 20% off. I bet if you asked for the price without the 20% coupon it would be the same. It's really one of the things I can't live without in my car. for reference, one of the main reason I traded in my 2002 for the 2007 was the fact I could not get ipod integration in the '02 but could in the '07. Took delivery on both of my last two E66's with the kit installed and the changer pulled.

its 20% of the part not the install, I was thinking of doing it myself and bringing it to the dealer for the coding.

make sure you get the newest kit that charges the ipods, touches and iphones released in the last year. like the 2g touch or 3gs iphone

I have it and it works great. The sound is really clean and works much better than an fm transmitter. Used an fm transmitter in my old 745. You can tell a difference with ipod integration, the bass sounds much better and the highs do not sound muffled. I bought a griffin adapter because mine only charges the ipod but will not charge my iphone. The adapter took care of that and it charges both the iphone 3g and 3gs. Adapter was like $20 on amazon. I really like being able to control the ipod/iphone on the steering wheel. Definitely make a playlist, it will be easier to find the song you want. I bought the car with the ipod integration already installed. The dealer told me it would cost about $800 to have it installed so $600ish sounds right.

I also use the adapter with the older kit as I had the kit before Apple changed the pin layout and got rid of firewire charging. There are two manufacturers of the adapter, Griffin and Scorcese (sp?). I have both. Definitely go with Griffin if you get the older kit (works fine with the adpater, and you may be able to find a good deal on it). The Scorcese adapter always falls out of the ipod.

Sounds like you are not an ipod person and you probably have the original ipod and don't need the adapter anyway!
