Well, I finally get to keep the bimmer as my daily commuter after the
wifey drove it for the past 7 months.:D I detail the car over the
holiday weekend and get it ready for work.

Hopped in the car this morning and started my daily grind (err, drive).
Hey, it's Monday morning but at least I'm driving my bimmer!! About
1/2 a mile from the house, I notice the "Service Engine Soon" light.
WTF? I finally get my car back and this sh*t happens.

The OBC indicates 600 miles left before the 1st service is due. Could
the "Service Engine Soon" light be related to this or is it a totally different
problem?

By the way, for you So. Cal festers, which dealership do you recommend
I take the car in for service? More specifically around the L.A. area.

TIA

LA's a big area, perhaps if you were more specific, we could help you better. :)

The SES is a generic light so it could be anything from a loose gas cap to something actually catastrophic.

Most LA dealers are pretty backed up so depending on the severity of the problem (does the car still run?) you may have to call around till you find one that can look at the car reasonably soon.

Sky - sorry to hear about the cardiac-inducing 'Service Engine Soon' light!

If you notice a loss o'power, and the car shaking, not moving with its accustomed Bavarian sharpness, you could have a Bad Cylinder Coil (this happened to me after 4 months). Otherwise, like everyone has said, it could be anything. :dunno:

These folks are behind the Orange Curtain, but you might want to give them a try:
