Got an email this morning from WIRED, listing this particular device (MIRT (http://www.themirt.com)) as the Gadget of the Day. It was also featured on the local news as well about a week ago. According to the email, it's already banned from sale on eBay (for good reasons, IMHO). A quick search also indicates the company is receiving an alarming number of sales and has been sold out for a while.

Anyway, I've seen various iterations of this type of device (some sold in the back of car magazines)... surprised it hasn't been received much attention in the media until now. Maybe this one is the first one to work reliably? :dunno: Anyone hear/read about it lately?

Anyway, nobody answered - have you tried one of these? how is it?

and most important - how long before they make them illegal or shut down the receivers?

I think I know now why every now and again I find a street light red in the middle of a green wave

They're not already illegal for non-emergency vehicles?

A lot of states have already made them illegal, but no big punishment if you have them. Basically just a slap on the wrist. :tsk:

And you are assuming your community even uses the system.

I know here the city was testing the system but had not decided to implement it citywide.

My wife had a blond moment one night and thought that by flashing her high beams you could get a light to change. I told her she's a genius so she keeps doing it :)

Was it cold or was she just in a good mood?

I know a guy who still thinks that's the case.

If a green wave is interrupted by a MIRT, will it resynch, or is it permanently screwed up?

But you know what? If you do it long enough, the light is bound to change! :bustingup
