I'm sure someone has had this issue... I have the check engine soon light on, with the error reading Emissions Related Fault. The OBDII reader came up with codes P0430 Catalyst Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 2) and P0491 and Secondary Air System (Bank 1). Need help on this one peoples... No real lose in power.

I also have the P0430 Catalyst Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 2) error, have not had time to go into the dealership and have them tell me what the price will be to repair.. Dont really care to much to get it fixed as it is only annoying because the check engine light is on.. lol...

It should cut off in a day or too if not go to pep boys and they will clear the code for free.

it usually cuts off after about 300-400 miles of driving, but 2-3 days later it comes back.. Also the couple of Pep boys that I have around me suck as they will not clear any codes for free, which sucks..

Yeah, I got it cleared and it came back within 60 miles. I have till next August to get it fixed, don't mind that - I know nothing last forever and this is a common repair with the 7's. I just want this annoying CEL out. But I do want the root cause of the problem to be repaired as I don't want it popping back up after I dump thousands into a repair.

Hi, did you ever figure out what the problem was? I had the same error code from Autozone, went to the dealer and they said the secondary air pump and relay needed to be replaced... paid 1015 for that and the SES light came back on after about 100 miles. I'm so frustrated and don't know what else it could be.

I would check and maybe change the bank 1 sensor and then reset and go from there. (PO430) bank 2

i had catalytic converter replaced and it p0430 never came back. and my hose was disconnected behind the motor on my p0491. i just took off firewall partion to free up space, reached back there and reconnected it. voila, no more p0491. if your secondary air pump was bad youd have a code on both sides, p0491 and p0492. so its either your hose or valve on passenger side.

Can you explain Faison how you took off the firewall portion to reconnect this hose I have the same code and am trying to figure this out. Any help from anyone would be great. I just have only p0491

May I ask if you were able to replace the catalytic converter by yourself or had to take it into a shop/dealer? And how much did it cost you? I fixed p0492 but p0430 keeps coming back and I am trying to see if cat can be replaced myself. Thanks,

The Pep Boys around here stopped doing it. I bought a code reader on sale for $49.00. It came with a code list and allows me to reset the light. Luckily I have not had to use it (knock on wood).

i had 2 error codes come on p0491 and p0492, the car failed aircare because of the check engine light was on.....took the car to nixon bmw, they said this was a very common problem in the bmw 745i and said to fix the problem it will cost alot of money. They said it was not worth to fix the problem because it has nothing to do with the performance of the car. They said for 500 dollars they have the software that can disable the secondary air flow unit so it does not work no more.

This is the one I have and it is a well-made product. It actually tells you the code as well as the description of the problem. It also does live feed data and also stores data. It gives pending codes, readiness indicator status, etc. Can't say enough about it.
