I have both factory iPod and sat in my 2006. I think you may be thinking of rear entertainment. I hear this is the issue with the iPod kit.

Did it come with the dummy panel? (To replace the CD changer panel on the dash). If you purchase/install at the dealer its included in the package.

1Bad, how about a pic of the unit you bought? I'm thinking of adding one and might want to go the DIY route and just have it programed as well.

I think it replaces the changer because it uses the logic to trick idrive into thinking each cd is a different sort on the ipod. I have said many times. the kit is kind of a mickey mouse back end way of getting digital music in our cars. not perfect. but better than the changer.

Great deal on the kit for $180! I paid about $1000 including install and tax, at the dealer, for BOTH the ipod adapter setup and Sirius radio. They were running 20% off special, and I told them I wanted both and they gave me like 35% off, give or take. The ipod works fine, sounds good, but I believe you're limited to 2000 songs max (not a big deal but you can't load everything onto the ipod unless you have less than 2000). and it takes a little while to spool sometimes as it searches for the songs. Usually only happens once a day or so.

I hate that. Nothing bugs me more than unreturned calls. Keep at it.

It's approx a 3.5 hour install, to do the whole thing, i think programming was like an hour of it...so figure 150$

Joe-BMW

3.5 hours at my dealer at $100 per hour is more than a 150 install. That said, most dealers sell the kit installed for $600.

you didn't read clearly...the TOTAL install was 3.5 hours...The original poster was going to DIY the actual install

doesnt your 07 have it factory BOB>??

No...it has the CD changer. The Ipod unit replaces the CD changer. I was quoted $680 for the unit installed from the dealer and I'm considering it. However if you are able to install it yourself and just pay for programing time......that might be a better route. Besides, a good DIY gives you a great sense of satisfaction. I put angel eyes in my 3 series vert last weekend and I feel like a master mechanic!!!

The Ipod is great but if u dont have it the next best thing is make mp3 disks they hold about 130 songs a piece.

I believe the dealer charges 135 an hr... and i believ its an 2.5 hr install charge time. I can 100% install it myself...But after some research looks like the car should be updated before the install. Ill get a price, Not sure if I want to mess with the most bus..???

dont all 07's have the aux in the center console>??

Yes they do. However I am under the impression we are talking about the ipod unit that allows you to control the ipod through the I-Drive. The AUX works just fine, but I would prefer the "on screen" option. I think the 07 was the first year for the AUX inputs in the center console. Although it seems I am missing out on the "secret compartment" earlier models have in that spot.

You can control some volume.....and on the I-drive you have AUX as an option, but thats about it. It doesn't read the ipod at all. No song or artist names..etc.

Oh wow, I didnt know that, I thought it was full control of the ipod through the aux, I was looking for an 07 because of that feature, Just couldnt find an aw sport with super low miles and cpo'd... That would have been a 5-7k kick in the face:rofl:. Im going to call the dealer again and get this thing Installed. Ill keep everyone updated on the progress.

I had a DICE unit in my e38. The song/artist information was optional depending on if you wanted to control it with the factory controls or the ipod. After a few months of using the factory controls, i switched to the ipod controls becuase they are so much faster. I would much rather use the ipod controls--although it is much safer to not be looking down at an ipod while driving.

And btw, the bmw ipod adapter is limited to 288 items at a time. That's in any category--song, album, artist, etc.

Yeah...I have the DICE Silverline in my 330Cic. It actually works really well. The system 1Bad is putting in works kind of the same way....through the 7 series CD changer wiring.

I paid approx. $650 for ipod integration. Included the adaptor, dummy panel, programming, and iDrive update (my iDrive needed to be updated first - took two trips). All of the limitations noted in the thread are correct. Another inconvenience is the shuffle function doesn't work logically. In order to shuffle, you have to enable the RND (random) button at the top of iDrive. If you leave it alone, it will shuffle songs. But you want to skip a song (by pressing an arrow key on your steering wheel, for example) it won't skip to the next shuffled song...it will progress to the next linear song. If you want to skip songs while shuffling, you have to keep enabling/disabling the RND button. Kind of irritating when you have 10,000 songs on your ipod. In that case, you have to make playlists and make sure they sit atop your playlist order so iDrive will pick them up.

Like Joe-BMW said, not perfect, but better than the CD Changer.
