Hi Folks,
I have owned a 530i and now own a Subaru Legacy Spec B. I am looking to sell my Subaru and purchase a used 7 series. I found a web site last night that pretty much bashed the 2001 750il model I was looking at, so I looked and found you guys. Since I have not purchased yet, I thought I would ask this group for some input in which model. To start, I do not have $80,000 to shell out on a new 750, so I have decided to purchase an older model. I like the looks of the early 2001, but have also been attracted to the newer 2002 and up. My son-in-law just picked up a 2001 740il and loves the car. Thoughts? NH Bulldog

how much are you looking to spend on one? that will probably determine the year and series ...

2001 750il's are terrible, in terms of reliability. I am not saying an e65 745i will be any better but at least it's not a v12 BMW.

ALLBLACK7, thanks for the response. Between $30,000 and $35,000 would be OK. I have looked at the earlier 7's to reduce the cost, but with the stories of the astronomical repair cost, newer model sounds a little more reliable.

SEVEN11. I have been told to shy away from the V12. Thanks.

The general consensus is that the '06 and newer models are pretty much the most trouble free as most of the bugs have been worked out by that time. That year model will also meet your price range so I'd say shoot for one of those. The 750Li is an 8 cylinder so you won't have all the problems that (some) of the v12's have (burning oil, etc).

I would have to piggyback ndabunka. An 06 or 07, depending on the miles should fall within that price range. In addition, if you'd really like to save a few more bucks, you can look at an 03 or 04 which would run about $21,000 - $25,000. Earlier this year, I ran into the same scenario as you. Trying to decide which model 7. Obviously I decided on the E65 (which was at the lower end of the range spectrum indicated above), and I also got a 3 year/36,000 mile warranty to cover it. Needless to say, I LOVE it! This is not my primary vehicle, so I don't think I'll have any problem keeping it under 12,000 miles per year. Just my $.02. Hope it helped
