Hi,

I have a 2001 X5 4.4i without rain-sensor and/or auto-headlights. I also have a 2002 330Ci with rain-sensor and auto-headlamps and I really miss this functionality in my X5.

I believe that in 2001, that a rain-sensor was available as an option on the X5. The parts would consist of the rain sensor windshild mounted module and mirror. Perhaps a new windshield? (see Q 3).

I believe that in 2002, the rain-sensor also included the added functionality of auto-headlights. I assume the parts would consist of the rain sensor/light sensor module and mirror, a new headlamp switch and bezel, and a perhaps a new windshield? (see Q 3).

Three questions:

1. Is the wiring in my 2001 X5 there for the 2001 rain-sensor option?

2. Is the wiring in my 2001 X5 there for the 2002 rain-sensor with auto-headlamps option?

3. In either of the above scenarios, do I need a new windshield for the rain sensor to work? (is there some special optical properties of the windshield where the sensor looks into the glass?)

Anyone done this? If so, any parts ordering advice?

Thanks,
VR.
