My wife baked a dozen butter tarts for a party last night, where none of her American friends have heard of this dessert. For those of you have never heard of butter tarts, imagine small pecan pies with the pecans and sugar replaced with rasins and maple syrup. Is Butter Tart a Canadian dish? I am so used to having them everywhere, and it's weird to discover that so many people have never had one.

I've never had Butter Tart before... and I'm a foodie. It sounds delicious though. :yummy: Sounds similar to a French-Canadian dessert I had called tarte au sucre that I had in Quebec City. No raisins in that one though.

That's funny...
I lived in BC for a year and I never had one! :dunno:
(Then again, I stayed with a family that moved from Idaho...)

That's exactly it. Butter Tart = Tarte Au Sucre with raisins.

Don't give away our secrets! ;)
Hmm now I will go on a quest for a butter tart. Thanks Ed! :D
Have you tried the PC "lassy mogs" cookies? They remind me of pumpkin pie plus the chewy fruit. Quite tasty IMO.

Nope. I've never been any further east than Ottawa, unless you count Europe.
My wife will be make more butter tarts in the next couple of days.
