not that I'm in a big hurry to put my stock air box back on. just curious. actually, this question is aimed at 325/330 owners with the improved air box.

I'm running the stock air box and I don't have any particular plans to go with an aftermarket CAI.

:hi:

I am going to be running the stock air box as far as I know so far. I haven't decided on the CAI thing yet, and consequently am not in any hurry to run out and spend another tree-fiddy on one just yet.

What's the "improved air box"? :dunno:

I'm running the ZJC package with the stock air box. (Uh-oh... is it still a ZJC if I don't have my Conforti CAI currently installed?) :eeps:

Are you gonna give it a shot with the CAI and see how it feels? (or if I could borrow the CAI to try out.... )

Maybe... we'll see if I can make it to the January SCTS. If I get that part from ECIS, I want to try it. If not, we can slap it on your ride, and if you like it, maybe I'll sell it to you for a song. No promises yet though... gotta think about it a bit.

I think that's what I'll be doing!

I'm tempted to try it out for a while, at least to see how it is. doesn't sound as if the conforti will be CARB approved any time soon.

I've been hearing horror stories in northern california where people are being pulled over just for the way the car sounds and being cited for non CARB mods. apparently it's a specially trained bunch of cops who can even pick out just a CAI.

Seems unlikely. If the cops were intent on enforcing equipment rules, then I'd have received fix it tickets for my tint, lack of a front license plate, and lack of front reflectors by now. A CHP officer had the opportunity to cite me for the latter two offenses one year ago today when he cited me for speeding (if you're reading this, Merry Christmas Officer Scrooge :hi: asshole) but he apparently didn't. (As an aside, I wonder what he was aiming his radar at to get his bull**** reading. He had to reverse his direction to pull me over, and my V1 was screaming long before he was visible to me, so my speed was legal by the time he could see me).

part of the improvements in the 325/330 over the 323/328 were in the intake and exhaust systems. Anyway, the 325/330 have a second inlet added to the air box. The 323/328 had just a single inlet. some cars had a spring loaded inlet. I'm not sure which cars had this or exactly how it functioned or why. it may have bee operated by heat instead of suction.

Oohhh... I see.... I wasn't aware the 323/328s didn't have that part.

Well, I'm probably going to order my Shark soon. I'll run it with the stock air box for a while... then reconsider the CAI later so I can save some more $$ before I buy....

Do you still have your original modded box with the 3rd inlet? I'm thinking about combining the Shark with that mod.

i thought of getting the shark injector or mabe even the jet chip, can anyone who already has some type of ecu upgrade tell me will i get a noticeable amount of horsepower or is it so little of added power i wont even feel it. im not quick to just go out and spend 3- 500 bucks for nothing. i checked the dinan chip from bmw and they are saying in order to feel a real noticeable change in power i need the intake as well. i was thinking of running a 50shot dry n.o.s on my car, it was just a thought i just dont want to tear it up u know. if anyone has any advice please feel free to reply. and if anyone can refer a good chip let me know, thanks guys........... by the way if i did just get a chip upgrade or software upgrade which ever and kept the rest of the car stock would i feel the difference or do i need to just stick to others are saying ive talked to and get intake, chip, exhaust. and if i did get the three what am i looking at as far as performance will i get myt moneys worth the performance. for the price of the three upgrades i could get the 50shot easy.

Don't.
I second that.

Nitrous = more stress which could lead to a blown engine!

Nawz is lame but as long as you're not stupid with it it's not any more dangerous than a blower or turbo.

I didn't know if you were aware that AEM started offering models for the 3 series BMWs. I just ordered one for $138.00 for my 2000 323Ci. They have two options for most cars, either CAI or just a short RAM intake plus heat shield (like the Shark intake and ECIS). It's interesting that for the 323, they only offer the short RAM because they say the ideal intake length is short and any gains from the colder air of a CAI were lost to the less than ideal intake length (they prototyped both and put them both through dyno testing). They have dyno charts (powerpoint slides) on their site: www.aempower.com. I belive them because they would stand to make more money off of me buying a CAI instead of the short RAM model. They offer both short RAM and CAI for the 325/328/330.

AEM has been around for years and has traditionally made parts for Honda and other Jap imports. It seems now they are expanding to include the Germans. I was in contact with them via phone and they really seem to know their stuff. I am trying to get them to finance a dyno run with my car as the guinea pig: stock VS intake VS shark+intake. I'll let you guys know if they come through for me.

Did they tell you this over the phone or something? I see no mention of 330 on their website... :dunno:

Yeah, you're right, they've got 323,325 and 328. Sorry, I guess I just thought they had them all. All I was really interested in is the 323. Sorry for the misinformation.

It's cool. I'd be interested in seeing one if they come out with a 330 one. I have an AEM CAI on my old Integra.

Dude, where did you find it for $138? I can only find it for $203 on AEM's site.

I ordered 12/23 and haven't received a shipping confirmation. I think they're out for the holidays, probably until the 5th. With a filter recharge kit and free shipping, the total was $150.

so I pulled the conforti Intake yesterday and put the stock air box back on (still using the E36 filter which has taller pleats instead of the foam layer - meaning more surface area).

the car does feel a bit more slugish and not quite as power as before. it is slight, though. according to the below dyno chart, we're talking about a difference of ~4.7HP and ~5TQ. this is supposedly the minimum HP that anyone cany actually feel.

I miss the higher RPM roar but definitly not the hiss so far.
