Radio Volume knob doesnt work!!arrr.....

Hey guys I need a little help her. I have a 97 528 with Dsp, the volume knob on the radio itself doesnt work. the buttons on the steerig wheel does? Whats wrong here? When i push the knob on the radio it turns it off, but left and right gives me nothing. I am about to take radio apart and check to see if its the pot that is bad. I recieved a suggestion of removing the battery cables and shunt them together. But before trying another of this, anyone know any other tricks?

The tip about removing the battery connector for ~30-35 minutes will most likley do the trick.
I had the excact same problem with my car and i solved it by disconnecting the battery for a while.
