I am new to M3 ownership and new to this forum! Just purchased a cherry 1996 Silver 2Dr M3 with a 5 speed, only 43K miles and never driven in the rain, let alone raced. I am pretty careful with my cars, the previous owner of this vehicle has done an amazing job keeping the car in showroom condition.

It has the luxury package, with aftermarket mods to include the Dinan CAI, exhaust and Stage IV tuning.

One issue I have with the car is that it is a BEAR to get into first gear, takes way too much pressure for my tastes (and yes, I have driven manual tranny's all my life). The owner said he had the shifter replaced with one from a M3 Roadster as it is a shorter throw. I don't think that is the problem, I did notice that the clutch pedal has to be flat on the floor to shift, engagement is literally immediate when you start to lift.

So my question is - are the clutches on these cars adjustable, and if so can you point me to a technical link for a DIY kind of guy?

Thanks for the help in advance.

Turned out to be a simple fix. Previous owner had installed a clutch stop, and even though it was adjusted in as far as it could go the travel was not sufficient to fully disengage the clutch. I used a dremel and removed about a 1/2" of thread from the bolt and re-installed. Clutch and shifter are now in harmony, shifts like a dream.
