Windshield Sun Protection Gripe

Why do most windshields on luxury cars have a tinted upper edge whereas the F10 does not? My former car, a Cadillac DTS, offered better sun protection to front seat occupants. Will probably have to add a tinted strip to alleviate the problem on my F10.

There are two optional windshields offered on vehicles sold in other countries. BMW probably installs the standard windshield on US-spec cars to reduce costs, since most Americans don't notice or care anyway. Just because 50 people on Bimmerfest notice doesn't mean it matters.

Also, on my 650i the HUD was not compatible with a tinted windshield.
