What's the difference between e46 m3 manual seats and regular manual sport seats? I realize the poewr versions have the adjustable side bolsters-- but as far I remember the manual seats are exactly teh same as the regular sport seat.

I find that they are more supportive than regular sport seats.

Interesitng. I checked the ETK. Looks like the m3 does have its own seat foam and seat upholstery. In what areas do you find the m3 seat more supportive? I"m interested because I find that my standard sport seats give me aches in my back-- and butt. Do you already have sport seats? If so, it might be cheaper to just buy the M3 seat foam pieces and leather covers-- since the rest of the parts are the same.
I do have the sport seats. I find the M3 seats hugs your hip, sides and shoulders (?)a bit better and the lower back support is better even without the additional lumbar support.
Nice find in the ETK. It could be an option. Wonder how hard it would be to do the conversion AND keep the heating elements.

You could always do that and check here (http://www.leatherz.com) for recovering the seats
That is true. Will have to consider that if I have have my car down that way ;)

I'm fairly sure that the heating elements are attached to the leather seat covers. I think all of the replacement seat covers for any model have the heater elements built in-- so if you were to order new M3 leather covers from a BMW dealer-- it should already have the heating elements.
You wouldn't happen to have a parts list would you?
Something to check:
Are the seat pans and backing the same? I do know of someone who put M3 seat (rails and all) into a 2000 323i and it was pretty much plug and play with the exception of the selt belt bracket.

yes, the seat pan is the same one use for every e46 coupe and sedan. The backrest parts are the same as used for all e46 coupes. But the fact that its a coupe specific backrest shouldn't preclude you from fitting the M3 foam onto your sedan backrest--- the only difference is the little releae lever on the coupes. Actually, that's something I hadn't thought about-- I guess if you fitted the M3 foam and leather, you'd have a small rectangular hole where the release lever would go. I'm sure you could devise some plug or patch to cover it up though.
I can give you the part numbers - What type of seat covering are you interested in? I'm guessing black nappa leather? There's also black "Impuls" cloth and black "M textured" alcantara/leather.
I don't know what the last 2 look like-- I remember sitting in an M3 in a Munich showroom a few years back that had some sort of cloth that seemed quite garish (lots of colors and lines) -- but I odn't know what it was called.
Yeah I thought of that as well. I'm sure you can get a good apholsterer (ahem www.leatherz.com) to fix it up although I'm sure some sticthing would be unavoidable in the area.
Well I have leatherette right now :eeps: So black nappa leather or the alcantara/leather combo would be cool too.

-thigh support upholstery 52 10 2 695 385 (that's the foam piece that fits onto the thigh extender. Note that when BMW says "upholstery" in the ETK they really mean foam) This foam piece is also specific to the m3-- I guess the shape is slightly different.
-seat upholstery 52 10 2 695 384 (foam for M3 seat cushion)
-backrest upholstery (52 10 2 695 383) (foam for m3 backrest)
-seat cover 52 10 7 902 070 (Nappa leather in black). Like I said, I'm pretty sure (about 90%) this will have the heating elements built into it-- but hopefully you can confirm that.
-leather/alcantara version: 52 10 7 902 066
-cover backrest 52 10 7 902 076 (Nappa leather in black).
-leather/alcantara version: 52 10 7 902 068
headrest:

Thanks Rob.
I'll try and get a quote together from my dealer tomorrow
