This birch trim will fit E46 coupes and includes 3 pieces across dash, 4 armrests (front and rear) and the shifter surround (manual, step or SMG.) Also fits E46 cabrios except for the rear armrests, which differ from those in the coupes.

Looks great with black or natural brown interiors.

$550 including shipping & insurance in 48 states. $50 less if you pick it up (near Salem, Oregon) and if the latter, will provide installation assistance.

Let me reference a photo posted by routesixtysixer of the birch dash and shifter panel trim in his 330Ci. Note that he did not fit a full birch set including armrests.

I will snap a photo of my set tomorrow and post it -- it's presently not installed.

I love that pic. I'm just wondering what that color will look like w/Black interior in a Topaz Blue vehicle? Any thoughts?

I don't know. I bought the birch to install in my Steel Blue 330Ci and thought it looked good, but my interior was sand -- and that combo didn't work very well, in my opinion. My plan was to try to convert my interior into two-tone black and sand -- I only did floor mats and the center console. I finally figured the cost would be too great. Now, with natural brown, I have the look I was seeking.

Generally I think birch in a black interior will be excellent. To my eyes the black is too monochromatic and the birch really sets it off -- as does aluminum or one of the "metal" trims. How the birch and the topaz will complement each other I don't know -- I would have to see them to judge.

The ironic part of this is that I took the birch off in Maryland a few months ago, sold my Ci and shipped the trim in the moving van to Oregon. Want to drive over and see for yourself? :D

Man, that does look excellent. I've never really been a fan of the myrtle in *any* color (particularly black - UGH), and I think the birch does a better job at highloghting the two-tone nature of the Natural Brown.

Do you know what color the trim piece is on the armrest? It looks jet black to me...? How does it look when birch-ified?

I'm not certain what you mean by "trim piece on the armrest," but let me describe the armrests (on coupes and cabrios) in detail:

Each armrest has a soft pad, covered in upholstery color, that fits into the top.

The armrest proper is made up of two components that are assembled by BMW; the top one is the trim (wood or whatever) and the bottom is plastic in black, gray or sand. For natural brown interiors, the bottom is in black -- just like the rest of the interior that is not leather. A black coupe interior would have a black plastic lower half, the nicely contrasting birch wood upper half and the black leather pad on top of the birch. The trim that I have for sale is birch on top and black on bottom of all four armrests. The soft trim pads are not included -- reuse the ones on the trim that is being replaced.

The parts catalog lists part numbers for birch/sand and birch/gray. I'm not sure those would look good, though. Birch is terrific, but only with a couple of interior colors.

And -- since I'm still in this thread, price drop to $500 (with shipping & insurance in 48 states.) :)

By the way, I think the myrtle is beautiful, but it is very difficult to see the grain because it is so dark. Great in bright light in a sand interior.

So, this is a duplicate set of the one in your touring?

Therefore, it will fit in my e46 touring?

It's coupe trim off my last BMW (2001 330Ci) and therefore will require a very big hammer indeed to fit your touring. Well, the 3 dash pieces and the piece for the shifter will fit, but the four armrests won't. :(

Did you mean to reply to my post about maple trim?

Yah, I hear ya. I took another look at my coupe after reading your description, and now I've got a better picture in my head. Thanks for helping to clear that up.

What I'm asking about is the "top" of the armrest (not the pad) that is covered in wood trim. If you look at the picture displayed in this thread, that trim piece looks to be completely "black", and I think that's a great look. That's the part of the mytle trim that IMHO looks best - where it contrasts nicely with the brown as opposed to being "hidden" by the black.

So, my question is, what is that trim piece that is on the top of the armrest in that picture? Is that "black cube"? How does the entire armrest (again, not the pad of course) look completely black?

Ah, gotcha now...that was a little wrinkle introduced by routesixtysixer, I think.

Search on his posts for the full answer, but if I remember correctly, he bought only the three dash pieces and the shifter surround. He then had the armrests covered in black leather (or maybe painted?) for that look. I agree that is very nice -- an interesting variation introduced on the original BMW theme.

Very tempting....

I have Natural Brown in my OB 330xi with the dark wood trim...

Saturday I pick up a 2005 X3 with black interior and the birch wood (for the Mrs.) so if it looks really good then I may be interested.

question 1: is this still around?
question 2: did you ever get pics?
