I noticed some E46's have crome tip on the vertical fins of the kidney grill and some do not. What determines whether or not you get the grill like that? I just ordered a car and my sales rep wasn't completely sure. He said if it comes in without the chrome accents he would swap it out for me, no problem. I'd really like to know if it's going to come that way or not, as I don't want to wonder about it for 2 months.

If I'm not mistaken, the 325 comes with non-chrome and the 330 comes with chrome. But I'd wait for someone to confirm that.

My 325Ci 2002 has chrome fins .... so maybe the coupes are different?

Both the 325 and 330 coupe have the chrome fins.

However, the 325i sedan has black fins while the 330i has chrome fins.

Only the 325i sedan has black slats. You will get chrome.

I just replaced the ones that came on my 325i with chrome because the black ones looked so cheap to me. I paid about $85 for the pair at my dealer's parts counter.

Actually it's the importer who decides which cars get the chromed slats.

Where four- and six-cylinder cars are sold, only the six-pots get chromed slats in the kidney grills. For drivers of four-cylinder cars, the chromed slats are an approved BMW optional accessory.

A minor clarification:

All coupes/cabs, all 330, and all tourings MY01+ get chrome.
