My f10 520d is the first new car I've had and so far happy with it except the fuel economy. My previous VW Touran would average 47mpg which was exactly the suggested mixed average. I bought the car with 10K miles so starting to get bedded in. Even with a feather touch and changing gear when recommended, I'm averaging only 46mpg against a recommended 57mpg. The engine seems a little sluggish for 184bhp compared to the 138bhp of the Touran. It's quicker but not by much. Both are manual transmission.

Do the engines get faster/more economical as the miles increase? Only done 2200 so far.

Thanks for any suggestions

1. Yes. Did you mean to say 10 miles? Or 10k miles? At 10k...it should be pretty well broken in.

2. I've never read a review of any car in either Car or Evo's long term fleets where they got even close to the manufacturer's claimed numbers.

The F10 has done 2K so early days. Just wondered if I can expect an improvement as it loosens up?
