View Full Version : BMW planning to develop electric vehicle for Chinese market

According to Beijing Youth Daily newspaper, BMW AG will join forces with joint venture partner Brilliance China Automotive Holdings Ltd. to develop an electric vehicle for China and that will be built on the platform of the BMW 5 series. The newspaper added that the concept model will be displayed at an auto show in China sometime in 2011, but further details on the EV are not yet available. A 50:50 joint venture between BMW and Brilliance, BMW Brilliance Automotive Co., is currently building the BMW 3-Series and 5-series sedans in the northeast China city of Shenyang. The BMW Group, in 2010, sold 169,000 BMW and Mini vehicles in China, a surge of 87 percent year-on-year. The newspaper added that BMW, in 2011, will present at least three new models into China through imports: the new BMW X3, the new BMW 6 series and the Mini Countryman.
