1989 Nissan Sentra. This is the same model, but mine was an titanium silver/iron oxide mix in the paint job w/ a grey vinyl interior. AM/FM cassette player, 2 6 1/4" speakers in the front door, 4 HIGHLY worn out tires. I put tint on the windows, changed the oil like twice to make my dad happy. He bought it for me as my first car and it had more miles on it than the space shuttle. I remember being sooooooo pissed b/c my friends were getting brand new cars. His concept "you will drive a POS as your first car, if you don't F it up after a year, we'll consider an upgrade. You F it up then it's on you, but I'm not spending 50k on a car you are just going to wreck." The man was right, although I have had 0 tickets/at fault accidents in 14 years of driving, I fuxored that first car all to hell learning how to drive. Oh, and pop spent all of maybe 500$ on that car too.

This was the beginning of my german car fever. My very first car, 80 Ford Fiesta Ghia (actual picture of my car) made in Cologne, Germany. The Ghia (luxury) package brought such amenities as cloth seat inserts, cover for the glovebox and hatch area.:) It had upsized tires, 155/80-12., 4 speed manual, and 1.6L carburated engine rated at 65HP. People always kept confusing with a VW Rabbit. :dunno:

Agreed. The torque steer wasn't even that bad.
It would practically lift off when hitting a puddle at high speed though. I eventually put AquaTreads on it.
Mine had no air conditioning, and that became a serious liability once I started commuting into NYC via car... August, stuck in Manhattan traffic, or in the Lincoln Tunnel, with no a/c, is most definitely a bad thing.

Nice car!
My first car was a 1987 Oldsmobile Calais sedan. Parents bought it used for me to get to my school-related stuff during senior year of HS. The first car I bought for myself was a 2000 Grand Prix GTP sedan, ordered and bought new a few months after I graduated college. I traded it towards a '99 M3, which I sold to get my Jeep and my '88 M3. It's funny that my "newest" car is probably the oldest one I've ever owned. The M3 was built in 3/87...I don't know for sure, but I wouldn't be surprised if the Olds was built after that.

Completely reliable, easy to work on, cheap, handles like nothing else, great mileage. Loose like all stock NAs until I tightened up interior bolts, balanced the tires and added the rollbar.

Frau Bleucher has issues, most of which I have fixed, but still a few German gremlins, doesn't handle as well, gets comparable mileage, slightly faster in a straight line, holds more people... Oh, heck, I've wanted an E30 for years. :eeps:

I regretted selling it almost from the first day I sold it, especially since about 3 years earlier I had the engine rebuilt and customized -- Isky cam, AFB carb, new rings, thrush glass packs, painted candy-apple red with chrome valve covers and chrome air clearer housing.
Austin Healey Sprite- Blue Ragtop.
not the bug eye...not the 3000-the drivers door flew open when I went around a left hand turn too fast.
I was 16 ...I traded that in to a guy for a 55 Chevy 2 door post (that is now worth around 75 grand dammit.

1980 Ford Fairmont. Among my favorite features:
AM radio only, but it was broken anyways, so I got to enjoy the sound of that sweet little four banger.
No power steering
Leak in the gas tank about half way up, so I had to guess where half full was each time I gassed her up.
0-60 mph: I wouldn't know; I don't think I ever got her up that fast...

Since this thread is revived, and as a follow-up to my previous post, it's possible that you might still see that car in the Phoenix area. I sold it in Mesa in 1976. At least it's unlikely to rust.

Not this color...mine was more of a sickly off white with a light greenish interior, column shift auto :yikes:
Idiot friend of the family I sold it to tried to make it look like a 4-4-2 by painting it red (on top of the not quite white paint) and putting white stripes (of a very wrong width) on the stock, non-ram air hood and putting 442 badges on it, but kept the single exhaust.

1968 Mercedes 220d. No power steering, no a/c. 0-60 in about 3 minutes. Top speed of 90 on a downslope with the wind at your back. But it handled nicely, was built like a tank and got 36 mpg.

My first car was a 1956 Packard Clipper. Didn't run when I bought it. Didn't run when I sold it :)
My second car was a 1968 Fiat 850 Spyder. Car didn't run when I bought it. I rebuilt the transmission, painted it and drove it for 4 years. 817cc (49CI) 50HP. Smog exempt because the motor was so small.

A piece of trash... yes... this exact car. I got it for free, it had been sitting in a yard, never started, never moved for 7 years. Took me 3 months to rebuild it to running condition. It died about 3-4 months later when the brakes totally failed on me... and I ran right out in the middle of an intersection.

I had a later V4 powered Saab 96.
The car had 400,000 miles on it when I gave it away. It still ran great but the parts prices were insane. Something that cost $20 for my Fiat cost $300 on the Saab.

1973 HD SD455 Trans Am (but in primer) was my first! How am I still alive?
1964 Fiat 600D. 32 frisky Italian horses. At top speed (about 65 mph) the right door (suicide door with hinges at rear) would start this resonance thing and start to bend as it vibrated, so that I could see daylight as it vibrated open...
Great for finding parking places in downtown DC...could fit in places where a VW beetle could not.
