HAs anyone ever experience a metal to metal clanking sound coming from the rear end while shifting gears? I am taking my car in today to have it looked at but wondered if anyone had any insight to what this might be.

Oddly enough, EVERY manual BMW I've ever owned have this clunk so I can't really tell if it's the car, if it's just manual transmissions in general, or if it's BMW in general.
All of my friend's manual BMWs had the clunk. Never thought to complain about it since it's on EVERY BMW I've know. :(

Thanks for the reply, I'm still going to take it in. I'll let you know if they determine anything is awry. I can't believe that there would be that much play in the drivetrain to cause this sound.
does it sound like it is metal scrapping? I had an issue where the little metal flap on my exhaust was not opening and closing all the way. You might wanna check that...
